During the Easter holidays, one of Malet's very own pupils took part in the British Judo Association's National Judo Championships in Sheffield.
This budding student was James, Year 10, and he left Sheffield with a Bronze medal.
We were given the opportunity to talk to James about his experiences with judo.
James got into judo through his father, an avid lover of all sports.
"8 years ago, my dad said 'do you want to do a sport?'" This resulted in James doing judo since he started Malet.
He also told us that judo is a sport of both fighting and mental skills, and its main principle is self-defence.
"It's a good sport if you like to be fit and stay healthy," James stated, "Give it a go, and you've got to keep pushing."
On the day of the competition itself, James didn't have many nerves, but he didn't expect to be waiting so long to fight.
"We got out at 9, but started fighting at 5."
This is a serious hobby for James though, as he would like to continue his sport into work and begin coaching as a career. Evidently, James enjoys his sport and has been winning medals for years; he has previously won bronze in the National Championships too.
Well done to James for his hard work and perseverence, and for winning such a high place at national level. Hopefully, his career in judo ensues soon after!
