Oxford University invited the Hull schools with the hope of inspiring pupils to apply. Mansfield College prides itself on being a very inclusive college currently having the highest enrolment of state school educated pupils.
The college’s aim was to encourage these outstanding pupils to consider an application to Mansfield and to empower the pupils to have the confidence to aim high.
The Year 10 pupils, Ella, Yasmin, Sam, Will, Oliver, Abbie, Ellie and Evie, were selected due to their high academic achievement and having expressed an interest in competitive universities.
The day started with a short talk from the admissions team about Oxford University and its 44 colleges. The pupils learnt about the admissions process and received some tips about A Level choices.
After a short refreshment break, the pupils toured Mansfield College, its library, accommodation and study areas. This finished with academic tasks supported by current undergraduates. The pupils enjoyed lunch in the dining hall and toured central Oxford.
Despite the long day, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the event and hopefully Malet Lambert will have another Oxford University pupil in 2020.
