As part of National Storytelling Week before half term, students were invited to write a short story or poem as part of a creative writing competition.
Many were also encouraged to send their entries to the BBC 2 500 Words story contest, but with a upper age limit of 13 years old, it was decided they would also be entered into a school competition to give Year 10 and 11 an opportunity to take part.
After being read and judged by English teacher and Creative Writing Club founder, Mr Black, and Learning Resources Manager, Mrs Hutchinson, three clear winners were chosen - Abigail and Alex from Year 10, and Joe from Year 7.
Abigail wrote a dark horror set in a seaside town, while Alex's tale started with a desolate world, devoid of hope, which gradually transformed into something beautiful.
Joe was the only winner who wrote a poem. He produced a uplifting piece called 'It's not dull in Hull' about our city and all its quirks.
He said, "I wrote about all the things I think Hull is most famous for.
"The poem was for a piece of school work, but my teacher entered it for the competition. I didn't even know I had been put forward.
"I'm very pleased to win, especialy because I really enjoy writing."
All the winners received a shopping voucher as their prize and their winning entries can be read below.
