Gateway - a combination of History, Geography and RE - has proven to be a very popular subject amongst our Year 7 students, and their most recent project shows why.
Students were challenged to create an election campaign in groups, but not based around the political parties competing in our current general election.
Instead, they had to go back in time to 1066, and use three prominent historical figues who were all vying for the English throne at varying points throughout that year.
Each group had to choose whether to support William the Conqueror, Harald Hardrada or Harold Godwinson and had to create a campaign for their chosen victor that would persuade the rest of the class to vote for their candidate.
They put in a tremendous amount of effort, making posters, devising songs and giving powerful speeches in favour of their chosen leader and the project really showed how much they had learned about these historical figures in class.
It also gave them an idea of how our country's general election works and what it is like to vote.
