Just before half term, all Year 9 students had the chance to head out on a trip to the University of Hull.
They were attending ACE Day (Aiming for a College Education), which is an annual event held to encourage KS3 students to consider university as a future option to continue their education.
Almost 280 students took part in the trip, which included group activities, competitions and a campus tour.
During the day, students were placed in teams of eight or ten and paired with a student ambassador.
They learned about the types of courses available, how finances work, where they can study and more about life as a student away from home.
Careers Guidance Officer, Mr Millar, understands how beneficial this kind of event can be for this age group.
He said, “Pupils in Year 9 have just chosen their options for GCSE and are starting to think about careers in the real world.
“This event was a great success last year, so we felt it would be a great opportunity for all of this year group to experience the day.
“Some may have a goal in mind and might not have realised that they need to do a degree to reach it, or they may think that there aren’t any courses that would interest them.
“An informal event like ACE Day gives students the chance to ask questions and find out how accessible university courses are to them.”
