November 9, 2016 brought shock to many people around the world, as Donald Trump was announced President Elect of the USA. Some may have been buzzing with excitement, others bubbling with despair. Today we have been around our school asking the opinions on Donald Trump.
Donald Trump, 70, has been described by one angry year 7 pupil as “sexist pig” and states that his election was a mistake, and shouldn’t have happened in the first place. She goes onto explain that “Americans elected him out of fear and not respect.”
Our Deputy Head, Mr Fenna, says that “somebody, who is so powerful, seems to have such strong views about certain people from certain backgrounds, with certain cultures and races. He should be the man who encourages everyone to be tolerant and inclusive of everybody, but he’s quite the opposite.” He carries on explaining that he doesn’t agree that Trump, with such a high status, should be as mis-opinionated of different cultures. He talked to us about Donald Trump’s unique way of tweeting and how unusual it was of a president to be tweeting through his own phone and not via a secretary or ‘personal tweeter’. He states “He reacts too quickly to things, I think, and immediately puts them onto Twitter. I feel like he’s a little bit like a very young child, who thinks about something and reacts straight away.”
A year 11 child says “Due to his business background, he might help his own country, economy wise, but internationally, I believe he’s too greedy and maybe a bit of a fascist.” He follows this with, “Basically, all his speeches, I have heard sexist speeches, he wants to build a wall, which is absurd and ridiculous things like that.” He believes Donald Trump trying to make the Mexicans feel guilty and that the wall won’t happen.
Another two students in year 10 agreed with the wall not being established and said “He can build it himself if he really wants it doing” meaning instead of the Mexicans having to pay, Trump and his supporters should pay the taxes themselves. “The wall won’t happen because it will cause too much conflict.” They also described him as racist and homophobic.
Someone in year 10 expressed “He has the most impact on America but he’ll also have impact on places like Mexico and countries near America due to his big empowerment.” The pupil also suggested “He puts quite a lot of pressure on families to choose sides, because I’ve heard of people who are Mexican/American and they would have to choose between the sides. He possibly could affect England in the future, but not in the short term.”
All in all, the vast majority of our school disagrees with President Donald Trump’s actions and think that he won’t be in presidency for a long time. Both males and females agree that he is sexist and racist and didn’t particularly want him to be the President.
