As passionate creatives the Malet Lambert Art, Craft & Design department encourages pupils to be free-thinking creatives using a wide range of materials and techniques including: printmaking, digital, photography, installation, mixed media, collage, sculpture, drawing and painting.

Vision of the department

  • To develop pupils imagination and creativity and equip them with the skills, techniques and insights to express themselves through Art,Craft & Design
  • To celebrate the work of pupils beyond the walls of Malet Lambert
  • To provide a secure platform for pupils to extend their studies after Malet Lambert
  • To develop self-confidence and raise self esteem through Art,Craft & Design
  • To foster the love of Art ,Craft & Design as an involvement for life, both as critic and creator
  • To enable pupils to understand and appreciate the educational, historical, social and cultural role of Art,Craft & Design
  • To raise awareness of cultural issues and encourage empathy and respect for diversity within the community in which they live

Facilities

Three classrooms in the new part of the main building. The new rooms provide extra space for pupils to be able to produce larger scale, ambitious works.  Between them they are equipped with two laptop trolleys, digital cameras, visualisers, art library, etc.

Courses

Pupils in KS3 study Art & Design for 1 period a week. Pupils opting for Art in KS4 will study a GCSE in Art,craft & Design  or Photography with an allocation of 5 periods per fortnight.

Extra Curricular

KS4 pupils are welcome in the department at lunch times and after school by appointment with their art teacher.

KS3 has an offer of Sketchbook club, arts council and additional digital art activities. We also deliver the opportunity for all KS3 pupils to enter the Arts Award.
