The Media department at Malet Lambert provides an option choice in Year 10/11. Our department brings together a wealth of experience with most of our staff coming from high level technical and management roles from a range of industry. This helps us provide in-depth technical expertise in Media and expansive industry knowledge.

Facilities

The school has a large number of dedicated ICT rooms across the site with Media place in many of these. All rooms have access to colour/b&w printing and scanning facilities. The department also has access to a vast array of industry standard software covering everything from the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite & Serif Suite to the Adobe Master Collection including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, etc., as well as many cloud based applications.

Courses

We deliver the Level 1/2 OCR Cambridge National Certificate in Creative iMedia, studying a range of different modules. Pupils study two practical units of the course through years 10-11 and sit a formal exam in year 11.

This qualification will encourage students to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of digital media including factors that influence product design, use of media codes and conventions, pre-production planning techniques and legal issues. They will develop learning and practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations as well as develop independence and confidence in using skills that would be relevant to the media industry and more widely.

In the practical elements of the course, they will learn how to develop a visual identity for a client, using the concepts of graphic design as well as learn how to plan, create and review interactive digital products.
