The Design & Technology department is located in the main building of the school, with 6 subject classrooms. We offer a range of subjects, giving our pupils the opportunity to learn a variety of new skills and to use their creativity.

Our Vision

  • To build relevant skills and knowledge for KS4 courses, as well as to encourage understanding of wider issues, inside and outside of the school context.
  • To allow pupils to explore a range of topics, materials, tools, and techniques, and to provide opportunities to be creative.
  • To develop the knowledge and understanding required to demonstrate problem solving skills, creativity, and a greater understanding of the world we live in and the products, materials, and resources we use.

Extra Curricular

The department has a number of staff who offer extra-curricular sessions for all Key Stage 4 pupils, including after school sessions and during lunch, allowing pupils to develop their work. Additionally, the department currently offers a KS3 Textiles lunch club, as well as a Food Science lunch club.

The department often takes part in local competitions and events.

The Food department offers a range of activities in June for BNF Healthy Eating Week, including the Malet Lambert Healthy Eating Challenge in which pupils design a healthy menu. This is supported by the school canteen who cook up the successful pupil’s menu. The Food Technology department also regularly caters for celebration events, and charity bake sales held in school.
