Malet Lambert is dedicated in supporting a smooth and successful transition from primary to secondary school.  A team of staff will work alongside primary school staff, parents/carers and pupils to provide  support throughout Year 6 to make the move to secondary school as easy and enjoyable as possible.

Autumn Term of Year 6

Malet Lambert offers a Year 6 Open Evening every year. The date of this always gives enough time prior to the closing date for secondary school applications and so allows an informed choice to be made on your child’s secondary school.  We welcome all prospective Y7 pupils into Malet Lambert on this evening and it provides the opportunity to meet some of the staff who will support your child throughout their time at secondary school and it gives our subject areas the opportunity to show off the curriculum and their learning environments.

The deadline for Secondary school applications can be found on the Hull City Council website.

The Spring/Summer Term of Year 6

Year 6 staff will complete a data collection on all pupils, including a more comprehensive SEND document where appropriate and all of this information is shared with the relevant secondary school. This information allows us to support transition, identify any additional support that pupils may need and allows us to sort pupils into their tutor groups and teaching groups.

The Transition team will visit our feeder primaries to talk to Y6 pupils about their transition to Malet Lambert and answer any questions they may have.

Towards the end of the summer term, your child will spend time at Malet Lambert school. The date and duration of this is set by Hull City Council so that it is common across the city.  Pupils will meet their tutor and staff, learn to navigate their way around the site, go to a variety of lessons and have the opportunity to make new friends

All parents/carers are also invited to an evening visit where you are able to meet your child’s Form Tutor.

Autumn term of Y7

Early in the first term, there is a Y7 Settling In Evening, where you can meet with your child’s tutor and discuss how well your child is settling in.
